W.W. Law Project

The W.W. Law Project honors Westley Wallace Law, a postal carrier turned civil rights activist and preservationist who played a pivotal role in documenting Savannah's African American history.

Located at 710 Victory Drive in the Cuyler-Brownville neighborhood of Savannah, GA, the W.W. Law House has been fully restored by Civis to honor the legacy of Westley Wallace Law (1923-2002). A prominent civil rights activist and community leader, Law lived in the house from the 1950s up until his death in 2002.

The W.W. Law Project will be used as a residence, hosting visiting scholars and creative practitioners doing work at the intersection of history and civic justice. Programming will happen in collaboration with the City of Savannah Municipal Archives, which houses the W.W. Law collection of photographs, speeches, and correspondence. Numerous organizations within Savannah document and celebrate Law’s life and work. The Law House will continue to expand on this beloved local story of Westley Wallace Law, helping to ensure that his legacy remains a part of Savannah’s present-day civic landscape.
