Civis Foundation preserves and activates historic homes, buildings, and neighborhoods as living expressions of our shared democracy. The places we support carry the stories of the communities that built them and of the civic life that still depends on them.
Guiding this work is the practice of reflective history: revisiting historical events, stories, and lived experiences through a critical prism. A reflective historian looks expansively, uncovering stories that extend in many directions to illuminate deeper meaning. Through this prismatic lens, we are able to retell familiar narratives in ways that generate new ideas about our present and interdependent future.
